We don't know the interactions between oxygen, glucose and pH for other cells.  Thus oxygen and glucose are decoupled, ie. oxygen and glucose are calculated independently.  Oxygen and glucose concentration gradients are dependent on size of the construct, cell density, consumption rate and diffusivities.  Here we simplify the problem by neglecting gradients through the medium, and assuming the concentrations of oxygen and glucose in the medium do not change.

 

1. To calculate the lowest oxygen tension in the construct:

(a) If the construct is cultured in 21% oxygen:
